The Persian Language and Literature Department is one of the earliest departments that established in 1996 at the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages of University of Mohaghegh Ardabili with the admission of students at the undergraduate level. In 2003, the Master’s Degree and in 2011, the Ph. D Degree of the Persian Language and Literature Department were established with the admission of students in the pure orientation. Currently (1991), this educational group is located in the Faculty of Literature and Humanities and has seven faculty members. The faculty members of the group have so far compiled dozens of scientific and educational books and hundreds of scientific articles, publications, and supervised hundreds of theses and dissertations. The Persian Language and Literature Department accepts students at the Ph. D, undergraduate, and master’s degrees in 5 majors, which are: 1. Pure literature 2. Comparative Literature 3. Persian Language Teaching 4. Sustainability Literature 5. Children and Adolescent Literature. At the master's level, foreign students are also studying, and some of them have defended their theses and graduated. The department also has the ability and facilities to accept students from other countries, and the department's professors are familiar with English, Arabic, Istanbul Turkish, and Azeri Turkish, and can converse with foreign students in these languages. Dozens of theses and dissertations in the field of comparative study of Persian literature with the literature of Arab countries, the countries of Caucasus area, Central Asia, Asia Minor, and Europe have been supervised and defended so far.
The main goal of the Persian Language and Literature Department is to train specialized forces in the field of teaching Persian writing and edition, and to train critics and researchers skilled in the field of criticism and analysis of literary texts in verse and prose.
The Persian Language and Literature Department has held several international and national conferences in cooperation with other universities and Persian language and literature departments inside and outside the country such as holding the 10th International Conference of the Association for the Promotion of Persian Language and Literature at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili in 2015, holding the 4th International Conference entitled "Unity and Alienation in Rumi's Mystical Thought" with the participation of professors from universities in Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Cyprus at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili in 2017, participation of the group's faculty members in the international conference "Hafez and Yunus Emre" at the University of the Near East in Cyprus in 2015, participation of the group's faculty members in the conference "Loyalty  in Rumi's Mystical Thought" held at Seljuk University of Konya in 2019, etc. The group also has dynamic and useful scientific and literary interactions and relations with reputable domestic universities.
