The herbarium is equipped with pressed, dried, identified, and classified plant specimens, along with essential reference books and floras that support accurate plant identification. It also houses two microscopes and a binocular light microscope capable of capturing high-quality digital images of plant specimens, enabling detailed morphological studies.
Each year, during the growing season of rangeland vegetation, new species are systematically collected, identified, and added to the herbarium collection, ensuring that it remains an up-to-date and comprehensive repository of regional flora.
Beyond its function as a collection of preserved specimens, the herbarium plays a crucial role in education, research, and conservation. It serves as a core reference for courses such as Rangeland Plant Identification I and II at the undergraduate level, and provides fundamental support to graduate students conducting research for their theses and doctoral dissertations.
Moreover, the herbarium contributes to long-term ecological and taxonomic studies, assisting researchers in monitoring changes in plant distribution, biodiversity, and responses to environmental factors such as land use and climate change. As a scientific archive, it not only preserves plant diversity but also fosters a deeper understanding of rangeland ecosystems and their sustainable management.
