Architecture takes shape within the context of human settlements, communities, and living environments. The future of construction defines the physical identity of villages and cities; therefore, architecture occupies a highly significant and valuable position in shaping built environments.
Architecture should be regarded as an opportunity for humans to understand their surrounding environment and as the creation of spaces formed based on beliefs, ideas, and fundamental human needs. It is the art of organizing space, expressed through design and construction. Some also define architecture as the art of building, with its core purpose being the enclosure of space for human use.
A general look at our built environment reveals that architecture in our country faces numerous challenges, the most important of which relate to spatial quality and identity. Addressing these challenges requires comprehensive consideration, where architecture schools play a critical role. To combat the decline in quality, it is necessary to enhance the knowledge, insight, and capabilities of the academic community and professional architects. Likewise, to counter identity loss, architecture schools must serve as platforms for cultivating and promoting human values.
Within this context, the field of architecture assumes the responsibility of elevating architectural knowledge, which demands a continuous expansion and deepening of related sciences. Architectural education has always centered on two core principles:
- Advancing architectural knowledge through engagement with relevant scientific fields, especially those adjacent to architecture, and deepening understanding in these areas.
- Recognizing contemporary developments and scientific achievements in architecture while contextualizing them within the cultural framework of the nation to gain knowledge that aligns with the values and needs of society.
The Department of Architectural Engineering at Mohaghegh Ardabili University, as one of the active departments of the Faculty of Engineering, aims to educate, conduct research, and train creative specialists in architecture and architectural studies. With its competent faculty members, adequate educational facilities, and a dynamic scientific association, the department has steadily progressed over the past three decades.
