The Water Engineering Department of Mohaghegh Ardabili University, with a bachelor's degree in water science and engineering, 2 master's degrees (irrigation and drainage and water resources management) and a doctoral degree (irrigation and drainage), with 8 faculty members (3 professors and 5 associate professors), is considered the largest and most important center for producing specialized personnel in fields related to water activities in Ardabil province.
Establishment and Mission
The Water Engineering Department began its activities in the undergraduate program in 2009 with the water science and engineering major, with the aim of investigating the water issues and problems of the province, region and country, examining the potentials available in the field of water resources, and training specialized and water-related personnel. In 2013, it succeeded in obtaining a master's degree in irrigation and drainage, and in 2017 in water resources. After that, in 2014, the department succeeded in obtaining a doctoral student in the field of water science and engineering - irrigation and drainage.
Educational Programs
The Water Engineering Department has developed various and comprehensive university courses, including the following:
The goal of education in the field of water science and engineering is to train specialists who are equipped with up-to-date knowledge and who can take steps to increase the efficiency of agricultural, drinking and industrial water with an emphasis on environmental protection. The field of water science and engineering covers a wide range of knowledge in the field of water. This field is suitable for those who are interested in the field of water-related issues. As mentioned, the field of water science and engineering is an interdisciplinary field and has great flexibility. The breadth of the field of water engineering is such that its students are required to take courses from other fields such as water construction, information technology, industrial engineering, environmental engineering, agricultural engineering (agriculture, horticulture and plant science), geography, economics, social sciences and law.
The Master's Degree in Water Science and Engineering has been established for the purpose of supplementary training and research methods in the fields of irrigation and drainage, water resources management, water structures, hydroinformatics, meteorology, and . . . . The following Master's Degrees are available in the Water Engineering Department of Mohaghegh Ardabili University:
1- Water Science and Engineering - Irrigation and Drainage
2- Water Science and Engineering - Water Resources
3- Agricultural Management
4- Rural Development
Cases 3 and 4 have 4 faculty members (1 professor, 2 associate professors, and 1 assistant professor) separate from the Water Engineering Department.
The Doctoral Degree in Water Science and Engineering is the highest level of education that includes the most advanced achievements in science and technology in the field of studying water issues and problems in the province and the country. The PhD program in Water Science and Engineering at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili includes only one orientation as follows:
- Water Science and Engineering - Irrigation and Drainage
Scope of Activity
Given the breadth and close relationship that the field of water science and engineering has with other fields, the employment fields related to it are very large and diverse. Graduates of this field can work in the following sectors.
- Ministry of Energy, including regional water companies, urban and rural water and wastewater
- Ministry of Agricultural Jihad
- Department of Natural Resources and Watershed Management
- Water, structure and soil consulting and contracting companies
- Fisheries
In addition to working in the above departments, graduates of the field of water science and engineering can first gain experience in the private sector as consulting engineers and work with various water projects in different sectors such as water pumping stations, implementation of pressure irrigation systems and drainage of agricultural lands, water transfer, water resources, river engineering, implementation of protective structures in rivers, and dam construction.
