About us

The history of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Moghan Campus dates back to 1968. That year, at the request of the University of Tabriz and with the approval of the Council of the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education, 350 hectares of agricultural land in the Moghan Plain—located east of Takleh Kandi village (between Channels A and N)—were allocated to the Ministry for the scientific training of students.

In 1969, the University of Tabriz signed a ten-year agreement with the Azerbaijan Water and Electricity Organization to use a 75-hectare garden for establishing a research station. This garden, which later became the site of the current Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, was subsequently transferred to the University of Tabriz.

In 1971 (1350 in the Iranian calendar), due to the long distance between the 350-hectare plot at Takleh Kandi and the research station, the land was exchanged for a 90-hectare plot located west of Islamabad.

Following the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture in Ardabil (affiliated with the University of Tabriz) in 1981, the Moghan Research Station was transferred from the Faculty of Agriculture of Tabriz to the Faculty of Agriculture of Ardabil, in accordance with official meeting minutes.

In 1998, after further administrative arrangements, the Agricultural Training Institute of the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili began its activities at the Moghan Agricultural Research Station by admitting 53 students. This marked the first intake of full-time students at a state university in the region.

In January 1999, the Higher Education Development Council approved the establishment of associate-level programs in Plant Production Technology and Animal Production Technology. Later, in October 1999, the Moghan Agricultural Training Institute received definitive approval from the Council, officially marking the foundation of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources – Moghan Campus.
