The Faculty of Social Sciences of Mohaghegh Ardabili University, as one of the specialized faculties of this university, was officially established in 2020 with the aim of developing education and research in the fields of social sciences and was separated from the Faculty of Humanities. This faculty is located on the central campus on the eastern side of the university in Ardabil city and operates as an independent structure. Before its official establishment, disciplines related to social sciences were offered in the form of educational groups under the Faculty of Humanities. With the quantitative and qualitative expansion of disciplines and the need to focus on scientific and research development in this field, the Faculty of Social Sciences was established and began its activities as an independent faculty. Currently, this faculty has seven educational groups including the groups of urban and rural planning; physical geography; archaeology; history and sociology; economic sciences; business management and public administration and tourism. This extensive scientific complex has been able to offer 29 academic fields including seven bachelor's, fifteen master's, and seven specialized doctoral programs. Currently, about 44 active faculty members are engaged in educational and research activities alongside more than 2,064 students, which indicates the important position of this faculty in the field of social sciences.
One of the important features of this faculty is the presence of specialized geography and archaeology laboratories, which have provided a suitable environment for students and researchers to carry out practical activities, field research, and scientific projects. The faculty's dedicated building was put into operation in 2020 during the university's development projects and is equipped with modern educational and research facilities, including new classrooms, meeting rooms, an amphitheater, and computer sites.
The first dean of this faculty was Dr. Mohammad Hassanzadeh, and Dr. Jafar Aghazadeh is currently the dean of the faculty.
