According to the Public Relations of the Energy Management Research Institute, Dr. Hossein Shayghi, a distinguished national professor and researcher from the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, received the special Excellence in Professorship award from Dr. Esmaeil Chamani, the university president.
Outstanding professors are introduced based on the university's board of trustees' resolution, aiming to better utilize and honor faculty members with professorship rank who demonstrate notable scientific merit, distinguished cultural personality at national, regional, and international levels, good reputation, and recognized scientific authority in their specialty, according to the regulations for selecting excellent professors.
It is worth noting that professors' performance can be reflected through the evolutionary indicators of Outputs, Outcomes, and Effects. Outputs refer to the direct results of efforts, such as scientific achievements published in articles and research and educational activities. Outcomes represent a more advanced stage, indicating achievements where professors, in addition to scientific outputs, solve societal problems in their field through these achievements. The highest stage, Effects, reflects the social impact and influence of the professor. The criteria emphasized in the regulations and especially by the university’s evaluation committee for selecting excellent professors are generally performance indicators of the Effects type.
The primary condition to qualify for the rank of excellent professor includes having at least 10 years of successful full-time service at the university, supervising at least ten doctoral and twenty master’s graduates, and earning a minimum of 300 points from research and technological activities after promotion to professorship rank, based on the faculty promotion regulations.
It is also necessary to have national and international honors, as well as at least one outstanding and unique scientific, research, or technological achievement recognized by the university’s evaluation committee; a minimum of ten annual net citations in Q1 journals indexed in reputable international databases; authorship of original collective reference books; and completion of demand-driven research projects approved by the university’s research and technology council.
After reviewing the quantitative and qualitative indicators noted in the regulations and the faculty’s performance qualifications, the university’s evaluation committee, consisting of several prominent scientific, research, and cultural figures representing the Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, and several renowned faculty members along with research and educational deputies chaired by the university president, makes decisions regarding the designation of excellent professors.
Dr. Chamani, president of Mohaghegh Ardabili University, at the ceremony awarding the special Excellence in Professorship badge to Dr. Shayghi held in the university’s Basirat Hall, stated that honoring, role-modeling, and respecting the position of knowledge and scholars are the most important goals of the ceremony. He said: "If we want to truly pursue growth and development and provide significant added value for society, the pioneers of this development path must be excellent and thoughtful professors."
He emphasized: "We have the duty to recognize excellent professors who are humble, content, and tirelessly serve science and the culture of our dear country Iran, and to introduce and honor them."
Chamani highlighted the importance of honoring scholars and promoting knowledge and wisdom by introducing scientists and said: "Symbols of wisdom and insight are scientists who are accessible to us, and we must promote these intellectuals and dear ones as role models for the youth and the general public."
He added: "Lasting impact, mentoring students, and social influence in science, technology, and culture are among the factors that distinguish an excellent professor from others. Dr. Shayghi, who deserves this title, has a scientific influence visible throughout Iran and internationally, and through
his scientific initiatives, has opened new paths for scholars and academics nationally and globally. He is the rare and valuable asset that brings pride to University of Mohaghegh Ardabil."
